University Council was founded on April 20, 1913, through the efforts of the local parishioners of St. Ignatius. The Jesuits were assigned to the parish and since the site of Loyola University was so close, the unanimous vote took the name, University. The first Charter was granted and the rest is history. At one time period, University had 3,500 members. It was later divided as members moved North and West into Columbus and Newman Councils.
